Music Box @ The Universal - June 3rd 2010

Our next live event is the second installment of Musicbox, in association with Antimatter Records and Genre is a Dirty Word, which takes place at The Universal in Glasgow on Thursday 3rd June. Musicbox is an audio/visual night with a bit of a twist. There are 4 bands on the bill....and 4 photographers.

This time round the bill is made up from Nomogram, Cracks in the Concrete, Error Response and Call To Mind. With Photography being provided by Ruan Guess, Awai David Wan, Erin Bardee and Parallar.

Each photographer is pre-assigned to a band with the task of shooting their own unique visual interpretation of that band's sound. On the actual night, each photographer will project their work as a sequence of visual projections to accompany their band's live performance.

It's looking like it'll be a great night so we hope you can make it along. Tickets are only £4 and will be available in advance from the Antimatter website!

Elba Sessions Presents ... 6

The Elba Sessions return to the Liquid Ship in Glasgow once again for the sixth Elba Sessions Presents… evening on May 6th. It falls on Election Day so what better way to spend the early part of your evening before toddling off home to watch Peter Snow on BBC with the official Houses of Parliament swingometer?

This month, it’s straight up acoustic goodness. Heading us up we have an acoustic set from local scoundrels Bad Bad Men who will treat us to their very own brand of rootsy folk. Also on the bill are the comforting songs ofDavid Bova and all the way from sunny Gourock, marky:boyofdestiny.

As always the music starts at 9pm and it’s FREE FREE FREE to get in. Do it!

Elba Sessions Presents ... 5

In December, Conor Mason came over to Glasgow visit Elba from Derry in Northern Ireland. In February, Johny and Laurence from King James made the long journey north from Devon. However, April’s guest to Elba Sessions Presents makes those trips look like nipping out to get the papers. We are delighted to welcome all the way from Warsaw, Poland, beneath us, the waves aka Neil Milton for our night on April 1st. If you aren’t familiar with Neil’s work then it is well worth checking out. I believe the line-up may include a laptop and a string quartet and the basement of the Liquid Ship should prove an intimate setting to listen to the glacial soundscapes of beneath us, the waves.

Joining them on the bill are east coast star gazers The Scottish Enlightenment. Tipped by many as ones to watch in 2010 we’re looking forward to having them at Elba ahead of a busy year for them which will include a couple of EP’s, an album, all culminating in a christmas single! Now that’s good planning!

Completing the line up for April’s Elba Sessions is John Rush. John is no stranger to us at Elba as he’s been in the studio recently doing a bit of recording. He’ll open up the night with his brand of retro indie blues, along with his band The Love Hats.

We hope to see some of you there, come and say hello if you do come. It looks like it will be our most eclectic line up so far!

April 1st, The Liquid Ship, Great Western Road. Entry Free, Kick off 9pm.

Music Box Feedback

Well, we thought the music box live music and photography night would be good but we never expected the first show would be quite so good! A fantastic turn out seen us just about sell out the 120 capacity of the Universal in Glasgow. We would like to thank all those who attended on the night and to the performers and artists involved, none of it could have been done without you.

Due to the success we have been convinced to keep Music Box an ongoing event with another show expected in the next month or two as well as hoping to bring the night to Edinburgh as well as Glasgow. We also hope to run an all day Music Box event in the summer so stay tuned for that!

In case you missed it or just want a reminder of how good the artists involved where here is a link to a video of 'Lamplighter's' last track performed live at The Universal!

King James (Lynched Recordings) - March 2010

Pop along to myspace.com/elbasessions or the official Elba Sessions website: elbasessions.co.uk to listen to the March 2010 podcast which features King James (Lynched Recordings).

The boys joined us in the studio to perform tracks from their collaborative venture - King James as well as a track each from their day jobs as 30 Pounds of Bone and The Diamond Family Archive respectively.

They also talked to us about the forth coming King James album, why Germany is the place to be if you make music... and want to be rewarded for your efforts and what's keeping them busy when they are not performing together.

King James have been involved with Lynched Recordings, Woodland Recordings and Drift Records, we recommend yo u check them all out as they are putting out some fantastic records.
