The Studio Elba Studios is Glasgow's first and only professionally run and maintained private hire project studio. Based in Argyle Studios (1103 Argyle Street) in Glasgow's west end we specialise in mixing and multi track recording. We also offer one of the counties best mastering services via our affiliate deal with Eighth Nerve Mastering. The ethos behind elba was to create a totally unique approach to commercial recording and music production services. Creating a space that our clients could truly takeover and make into their own private studio for the duration that they are here. Our studio is based around the very latest version of the industry standard Pro Tools DAW recording Software and our Tascam DM 3200 Digital mixer. Quickly becoming known as "Glasgow's Boutique Studio" we are nestled away down the "Hidden Lane" in a most appealing court yard, that has seen many glasgow bands such as Franz Ferdinand, Mogwai and Teenage Fanclub set up their own rehearsal studios here at one point, and we are still neighboured by Glasgow indie favourites Belle & Sebastian. So it easy to see why it was once said that if you want to be a success story from the Glasgow music scene you have to pass down the "Hidden Lane". Although we of course recommend you bringing your own equipment to your session in order to achieve the sound you have been working so hard at creating, and to achieve a better performance by using your own gear, we always have a couple of Fender guitars in th e studio and a nice Pearl Export kit set up, as well as our beloved Korg digital concert piano. (We don’t recommend bringing your own piano!). The recordings our engineers achieve with our clients have helped them gain radio play on BBC Radio 1, BBC - 6 Music, BBC Radio Scotland, Radio Magnetic, Celtic Music Radio, Jim Gellatly's New Music Podcast. We have also helped our clients achieve results that have led to record deals, ongoing interest from record labels and music management. Not to mention coverage in all major scottish newspapers and music publications such as NME, The Skinny and so on! Stephen Scott The resident head engineer at Elba Recording Studios Glasgow is Stephen Scott. With over a decade of experience in sound recording and music production you can be sure of being in good hands with Stephen. He studied music and sound production under the tuition of Paul McGeechan (Paulo Nutini, Beyonce, Roddy Hart, Kate Rusby, Kris Drever) head engineer of the former Park Lane Studios in Glasgow. Stephen has recently had the pleasure of working with such artists as Dean Owens (Navigator Records), Martin John Henry (De Rosa), Pearl & The Puppets (Universal Records), Daniel Wylie (Cosmic Rough Riders), Le Reno Amps (Drift Records), Conor Mason (Antimatter Records), S Kay (Artitik Records) to name a few.Kenny Inglis - Mastering Engineer In order to provide the best and most professional service possible to our clients we outsource all of our Mastering to Kenny Inglis. Ben Martin - Drum Workshop Co Ordinator / Session Drummer
Ben runs our drum workshops on a tuesday night and is also our go to guy for session drumming if your project requires a well experienced studio drummer. Ben has many years experience in teaching drums and session work. Having worked and studied under a host of well renowned American, British and German professional drummers Ben is well experienced in his field and has been commissioned for session work by record labels such as Sony BMG.
Ben has also been involved in running drum workshops for Impact Arts Scotland and Sound Base at the Arches in Glasgow. Ben is also a founding member of North Atlantic Oscillation who have recently released their debut album through KScope records which has been well received!
Dave Gillies - Bass Workshop Co Ordinator / Session Musician
Dave runs our bass guitar workshops on a wednesday evening and is also one of our in house session musicians. Dave can play just about any style you like, and with a composing background is definitely one of those musicians who actually understands music theory and the reasons why things sound the way they do. He is very quick and reliable and can come up with well-crafted bass parts on the fly; he is also quick to learn parts if the artist in question has something in mind. As one of our staff tutors Dave can also provide lessons in Music Theory ideal for young musicians studying at school, college or university. Dave is massively experience having played in a number of bands and taken part in a huge amount of studio session over the past ten years. As a session musician Dave can provide Bass, piano and violin as well as provide a professional arrangement service for your projects or for string sections.
